The viewscreen on our digital camera has been broken for several months now. We can still see out of the right 1/3 of it so we can take pictures.
Problem is to change modes you have to do it in the screen, which we can’t see. *sigh* I happened to know where my two favorite modes were in the menu so I could use them by counting the number of times I pushed the arrow button but I couldn’t use any of the other options. I have desperately been wanting a DSLR camera but it just hasn’t been in the budget.
May was my last month of school and my final bill was a little over $600. The GI bill paid me a little over $1200 for the month. My first reaction of course was well whoop dee doo it’ll all go to debts anyway. I then thought about it and decided if I could find a good deal I was goign to get my camera. I new camera will enable me to get photo’s of a high enough quality to sell as stock. It will also give me the ability to collect images for use in my digital designs. And of course I will have MUCH better photo’s of my family to share with all of you! The search was on!
I stalked DSLR’s on Ebay and Craigslist for weeks. I read tons of reviews all over the internet. I came to the conclusion that the Nikon D40 was the camera for me. It may not have all the bells and whistles of the newest camera’s and the megapixel’s were only 6.1 but over all it would suit my needs. Even with 6.1 megapixels you will get a high quality print up to size 16×20. since I never really design bigger than 12×12 that is enough for me! On Ebay it seemed the going rate for a used D40 on auction was between $380 and $450. I just really didn’t want to spend that much so I kept watching. Then the angels sang when I opened up the Craigslist ad for a D40 priced at $270!
The seller was located about 45 minutes away from me but it was only about 10 minutes from where Cameron worked. On Saturday night Cameron met the seller on his way in to work. thank goodness for pregnancy exhaustion or I wouldn’t have been able to sleep a wink! When he got home Sunday morning I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it! I took a few pictures but then I had to get ready for church. It was torture!
After church Iplayed around and got a few more pictures. I’m still only using it on the auto modes but I am really looking forward to learning more and getting really good at this whole photography thing. Here are a few samples.
